Appearance Description: Riku is a slim guy who looks as though he couldn't hold his own in even a one on one fight, however he has more strength than meets the eye. His features are soft for the most part and not that masculine looking at least by American standards. Rik typically wears a mixture of styles - weather it be punk or more conservative/business. He just likes to mess around with things until he finds what's comfortable for him.

Personality: Riku is a kind young man that's respectful to all those who show the same to him. He's open minded and accepting of other's differences. Though not the strongest person, Riku has learned the art of mind over matter and inner strength to help him on his path in life. He's a deep thinker and enjoys the simple things that life has to offer. Not the most violent of people, but if it came down to defending himself or those closest to him, then Riku wouldn't back down.

- Riku was born to a wealthy parentage in Tokyo, Japan. His father, Ichiro, was a well renowned surgeon and his mother, Haruka, was the owner of her own clothing line with a chain of stores located all over the city. Despite the financial security they had, Riku's parents in no way wanted their son to grow up spoiled and thinking the world would be handed to him on a silver platter. Anytime he stepped out of line, his father would hit him until he gave in - more often than not leaving bruises. He was taught that the key to success started with the ground floor and worked it's way up - opening new doors/opportunities as they came along. Rather than being placed in a private school, Riku went to public school instead and surprisingly liked it a lot more than he would have if it were the other way around. He found that the average class of people were more his crowd than the rich. Their customs looked upon as much too boring and limited.

By the time Rik reached highschool, he'd accumulated a nice sized group of friends over the prior years and was well liked. More the level headed, mediator than a wild child - Riku still wouldn't turn down a good time when the occasions arose. Shortly after his fifteenth birthday, Rik began experiencing intense headaches that no doctor, including his dad, could understand. Shortly thereafter, objects began to move in reaction to his emotions. When Rik was angry, things would fly off shelves or seemingly combust with no physical explanations. Slowly he put two and two togeather and practiced on his own - a feeling of immense shock and joy came over him when Rik first managed to move the remote control a few feet towards him from across the room. Almost everyday after school he would race home, run to his room, shut his door, and begin on practicing his newfound abilities. After almost three months time, Rik felt sure enough to show off his talents to his friends at an arcade they commonly hung out at.

Their reaction was completely different than he'd been anticipating. Rather than thinking it cool, they all began looking at Riku differently. He found they'd started to avoid him and he couldn't find any other reasons for this other than fear that he'd turn it on them or envy for what he was able to do. Now feeling more unsure about himself and having no one other than his sister Yumi to talk to, Riku began to descend into a downward spiral - becoming depressed and developing social anxiety. Beating himself up mentally everyday and losing interest in pursuing his abilites, Riku wanted nothing to do with the outside world. Rik ceased his efforts to better understand what he could do and what he was. School became a second hell for him and he couldn't bear being around anyone. By the end of the ninth grade his father informed the family that they'd be making a move to the United States of America. Ichiro had been offered a head surgeon's position at a Manhattan hospital. This was met with some groans and disagreement by Haruka and Yumi, but Rik was half and half on the matter. The negatives would be him leaving behind all he ever knew, but the positives would be that he could start over. No one had to know what he could do or what he was. Riku could be just another civilian.

They made the move over the summer before Rik's tenth grade year. It couldn't have worked out better. As much as he missed Japan, Rik no longer felt so isolated and worked through his anxieties by taking up meditation and religion; faith. He began to take risks - talking to people he didn't know just to break the social barrier he'd created for himself almost a year before. Things were on the up and up again. Rik was gaining back a group of friends, he was feeling more positive and outgoing; developing his enegry, his personality once more. Over the summer vaction, before Rik's eleventh year, he was having troubles with his powers again - so much so that he would run out in the middle of the night to unleash his supressed energy in the woods near his home. This went on for weeks and was weighing heavily on Riku. By either fate or mere luck though, Riku overheard talks and rumors of the 'Xavier Institute for Higher Learning'. Just repeating the name of the place in his mind sparked something that Rik just couldn't and wouldn't ignore.

Without informing his parents first, though mentioning it to Yumi since he trusted her above all, Riku set out for this school for the gifted in hopes of getting the help he needs to cope with his abilities. Possibly learn to take ahold of them as well.
